Personal Review: Titleist 909H Hybrid

The small compact head sits very nicely behind the ball of the ground and even from a small tee peg. The previous 585.H was ok, small and compact but not very hot off the face. The new Titleist 909H Hybridlooks a little more of a gem and carries the looks of the 909 range in it’s appearance, crisp, clean and very hittable.

The 909H Hybridprovides much faster ball speeds than previous models thanks to is a precision cast 17-4 Stainless Steel body and 455 Carpenter Steel face insert for maixmum distance. A traditional Titliest head design as usuall completes the making of this small compact hybrid that every young golfer will want in their bag!

After Rory McIlroy made it two-from-two for Northern Ireland at the US Open, previous champion Graeme McDowell called for The Open Championship to return to Portrush. And now with Darren Clarke’s victory at Royal St George’s, calls to take golf’s most coveted competition back to Ulster have intensified.

Royal Portrush last staged The Open in 1951 – the only time the event has been held outside England or Scotland in its history – and R&A chief executive Peter Dawson has admitted the organisation will revisit the issue.

The Titleist 909H Hybrid is also cheap golf equipment. It has two shaft options that are fiited at stanard but both produce very different results due there charatcerists. Firstly the Diamane Blue shaft that produces a higher launch angle to help produce soft landing shots on hard greens. The Aldila Voodoo shaft will best suit the stronger hitting golfer as this shaft produces mid to low launch and low spin that results in a more penetrating ball flight which is perfect in windy conditions.

Titleist’s simplistic approach to the design to the 909 hybrid makes it an absolute winner, it looks great at address and when you strike it you get the pure feel and more distance with a high rising soft landing flight.

The R&A have persistently stated that the course on the North Antrim coast does not currently have the infrastructure to rejoin the Open rota. When asked what they need to do, Dawson added: “I don’t know yet until we’ve had another look at it, to be honest.

The usual mixture of a great course and plenty of infrastructure, combined with a prospect of commercial success, is what’s needed. No doubt about the golf course at Portrush, although there might be one or two things one would do, but the other two are what we have to look at.
